Swedish pharmaceutical giant Pfizer is recalling nearly two million pills and two million bottles of generic Viagra tablets after the German government reported a rise in counterfeit versions of the drug, and a shortage of the drug has already been identified.
Pfizer has issued a public health alert on the sale of its generic version of Viagra tablets, which are sold as ‘sildenafil citrate’ (‘sildenafil citrate’).
The FDA has advised that the counterfeit version of Viagra, which is the generic version of the drug Pfizer has sold to the public, has been identified as a ‘sildenafil’.

The European Medicines Agency says it has received reports of counterfeit Viagra and the generic sildenafil citrate in the market. Pfizer’s recall follows a similar recall of counterfeit Viagra sold in Europe. It is a ‘sildenafil’ in the generic form.
